Coyne (see link below) describes well the framework for understanding the war in Korea, and the extreme danger and opportunity therein.
First step, know your enemy.
North Korea’s military position is defensive. They cannot win an offensive war and warn us again and again, they will only attack if attacked, and fearing pre-emptive action will attack. Pre-emptive war is their right under current rules of war.
Their plan war is to inflict as much damage on their enemy as they can, while they can, in the hopes of putting enough fear in the enemy to keep the enemy at bay. As long as that threat is there they will never renounce their right to nuclear defense against a nuclear threat. This too is in keeping with rules of engagement in this war. They trust, despite our denials that we will come and kill them. They point to our past and recent history.
President Trump’s threats play into North Korean fears of surprise attack … war games on their door steps, a dangerous game of chicken solely to entertain his audience. Let us pray back channels are open that no mistake of judgment sets off WWIII.
There is a solution.
Enemies must talk to end this war … no preconditions, as Jesus would preach… before this unresolved war, and a singular event starts the war which could end civilization as we know it.
Blessed are the peacemakers, they are children of God.

Trump is right on Russia. Russia can be our greatest ally and friend in setting the stage for peaceful relations among all peoples and nations. Or could be if we would stop making war on them! Yes Russia acts in ways that seem hostile, but it is we who walked up to Russian borders. How would we feel if Russian missile batteries in Mexico? Or Quebec? We must not only see the stick it our brothers and sisters eye, but first attend to the beam in our own say the Holy Ones.
As history shows, time and time again, efforts to end war have failed. Peace is a hard sell. In recent history Kennedy and Khrushchev; Kennedy killed and Khrushchev banished as those who trusted war won the day. Gorbachev in 1986 offered to destroy all nuclear weapons by 2000. Reagan got weak kneed and compromised. Imagine if Reagan had the courage to say “yes” and we followed such a course. Instead in 2017 we have a humanity ever more threatened by nuclear destruction.
Imagine if we “American’s” really trusted the operative concept in the Preamble to our Constitution, justice ensures tranquility, the sine qua non of peace. And in an act of imagination Trump and Putin project that concept onto the global stage, a doctrine of peace, the Kellogg Briand Pact given the global authority to enforce the law against war.
Instead on social media evidence of an American consciousness traumatized during the cold war still evident in the bias on the evening news. Russia is to be feared. Russia is the enemy. Distrust is fostered. Law is not to be trusted.
It is evident this distrust and fear is being manipulated by the military industrial complex to favor those who favor war … all options on the table … America at high noon guns drawn.
In these ways Trump faces serious head wind in pursuing a Pro Peace Pro-Russia policy not only from a still traumatized WWII Cold War “America”, but a President who seems to get in the way of himself every day perhaps in impeachable ways. In love as in politics timing is everything.
Trump is right on Russia. Friendship with Russia is the right direction for history.
I challenge Trump and Putin to take up Gorbachev’s challenge, updated: destroy all nuclear weapons by 2030. Russia and United States of America united at the United Nations to end war. A global peace conference to lead humanity in standing down from war and the objective of all humanity obeying the law against war by 2050, ushering in the Age of Peace.
Change the story on the evening news and change history …

The doomsday clock now set ever closer to midnight … humanity in the blazing sun at high noon.
We are all onlookers, transfixed by the global drama before us. And all does not look well for the guys in white. White represents the Innocent of humanity in a high stakes gamble on whether the guys in black will rule the day … in the name of profit. Robber barons of our day given ever more taxes breaks on the backs of the poor and disadvantaged. They promise things will get better.
We the people elected President Donald Trump in an election outcome suggesting sabotage changed the outcome. He believes in less tax on the wealthy in the hopes of driving the economy to 4% … a low probability likelihood and a high probability bankrupt solution. And perhaps that is Donald Trump’s real game plan … bankruptcy key to his business success and a sure fire way to starve the beast? Let them bleed.
What is for sure is Donald Trump gives cover to the guys in black who believe they are entitled to rape, our lands, our seas and our air. They believe in war.
They are prophets of doom … they have made themselves gods.
The guys in white getting some support in the street … peace and justice protests spring up this spring, but nothing in their message or energy that suggests there is any real force to derail Trump. As seen in his Harrisburg appearance he has great popularity with his base. As long as that support is there, the sheriff on the side with the guys in black celebrating victory and meanwhile the guys in white failing in disarray. We hold our breath. God help us.
In the seconds before humanity at high noon and doomsday mid-night, advantage … guys in black …

State of Humanity 2017

I am alarmed to report that whatever my alarm about the state of humanity in 2013 based on state of humanity in 2010, I am now even more alarmed.
In 2017 humanity is evermore preparing for war and those in the halls of power appealing to our lower angels and dark forces to win the day.
With the damning issues of Rapid Climate Change and the prospect of WWIII in our future, one would think flashing red and alarm bells on the evening news. Instead, humanity distracted asleep at the wheel. Heads down hoping to avoid what is ahead by turning back the clock.
The Doomsday Clock now set ever closer to Midnight.
In 2017 eight people have more wealth than the bottom half of humanity and the wealthy cry for more.
This injustice cannot stand and is seeding the grounds for those who believe in war to defend their way of life. Some worry the dye is already cast.
I have hope through the world-wide web, when the time is right, billions in the streets and parks demanding the end of war. And then the global will to elect to office those who promise to obey the law against war.
Those brave enough to go to the streets and non-violently stand for the end of war and stay there till war is done: prepare for the authorities in favor of war to persecute you … the way of Jesus.
This is true: the enemy without mirrors the enemy within! In this way President Trump is right, there are a lot of killers, and we are them as well. Until we can take responsibility for war, own the projection of our enemy, there will be no end to war.
To have the courage and the inner peace to be able to end war (and not recreate another war mentality under a different name) peacemakers must come to peacemaking with a heart of love. Love your enemy, the integration of the warrior and the lover, the balance of law that keeps the peace. Justice says the Lord.
I have witnessed the ebb and flow of war and peace, now in my 74 trip around the sun. I believe the end of war will happen when humanity is ready for it to happen, but as of now the when is unknown.
I was born in the middle of WWII and it looks like I am going to die in the beginning of WWIII?
State of Humanity 2017: Will humanity end war before war ends civilization as we know it? Do we have to go through the hell of catastrophic global war to end war forever?
